Letter from the Chair

By Matthew F. Reagan, Centocor

In this issue of the National SQR User Group's newsletter, you will find a preview of the features in Version 3 of SQR, going beta on the first set of platforms in October and production by year end. This is a welcome set of enhancements: I have been relying on a third party product for barcoding. The ability to write to multiple report files, manipulate arrays directly, and avoid specifying a size on load lookup tables has been long overdue. As for the dynamic select capability, it'll take WEEKS to BEGIN to comprehend the possibilities!

If you are on one of the platforms listed on page 6 and would like to help with the beta program, please give Gadi Yedwab a call at (310)424-4399.

Thanks go to Gadi Yedwab of MITI, Mark Johnson of Ray Ontko & Co., and John Abrams of Aspect Consulting for their articles. Thanks also to Candice and the cast and crew at MITI. This newsletter would not be possible without them.

Bill Lehman of CC Pace Systems, Inc. was kind enough to submit some of his workhorse SQR programs: One for table and index creation script extraction, one for table description printing, and the last for table and column comment updating. The code has been uploaded to the combined IOUG Digital SIG/National SQR UG/Delaware Valley OUG BBS at (610)286-7803. The electronic versions of the articles and code presented here are also available on the BBS. The files are in Library G (SQR Files).

If you haven't already done so, please send in your membership application and $10 registration fee as soon as possible. I would like to get the membership database up to date.
