I think you need to describe the problem in more detail but here are a
couple of ideas.
Can your SQL statement return the counts in addition to the items being
counted?
Do the counts need to be saved as summary information of a detail report? If
so, you could treat them as two seperate reports and write the summary as
you go using USE-REPORT.

Hello,
I am trying to write a program that will maintain counts for a variable
number of items.  The number of items counted will be dependent the number
of rows returned by a select statement in the program.  I could implement
this with an array, but I think there must be a better way.  Any
suggestions?
