Date formatting problem

Hello all,
I am sorry, if this has been discussed 'n' number of times before.
I am trying to convert date from source file in the format
'06/21/99' to '21-JUN-1999'. Could u pl let me know the most efficient way
of achieving this? I am currently using the 'Format_datetime' procedure
thru the datetime.sqc, but not achieving the correct results.
