Judith,

Out of interest, what does "'collapse' on search string" mean?

MultiEdit has the following features that I use a lot:
standard windows editor features such as search/replace, copy/paste.
syntax highlighting - sensitive to file extension. I had to create the one
for sqr/sql.
prints the syntax highlighting if requested
multiple open file editing
search for literals or regular expressions in either open document or
multiple files (files don't have to be open)
multiple file search and replace (files don't have to be open)
'collapse' on search string (doesn't work real well in 7.11c) but it comes
in handy for printing the 'begin-procedure' line.
side by side file compare
multipane ascii/hex editing
export of search results

does not have:
selective line editing (called 'exclude' in SPFPC)
column editing
