As of SQR v4, there is an SQR.INI file setting "Output-File-Mode" which
can be set to either "short" or "long". If it's set to "long", you'll
get filenames in the form pgname_01.lis; "short" gives you the old
pgname.l01 format.

The advantage of "long" is that all of your files have the "proper"
extension, so Windows browsers, Web servers, etc. all can correctly
determine the file type (without having to define mappings for .l01,
.l02, .l03 through .l99).

(My SQR 4 manual says that "short" is the default, and that this setting
applies to HTML output. I'm almost certain that it applies to all file
extensions [including .lis and .spf, for example], and that the default
was changed to "long" in some version of SQR 4.x, but I don't have a
place to test this at the moment.)
