Stranger Requirement

As there is not much activity in the Ford EXP list, I'm posting a Ford
question here.
My driver-side headlight has a tendency to burn out much sooner than the
passenger side. The obvious solution would be to replace the driver-side
wire set with a passenger-side length, thus increasing the resistance and
preventing a short lamp life.
However, I was wondering if I could put a resistor inline to get an
equivalent result. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
-Chris
