I agree with you that an end-of-rows is implicit with a select
statement, but the method you have described below is a double-edged
sword, since your command will execute even if the select statement
returns no rows.

If you need it to execute every time, this method is acceptable; if you
need it to only execute when valid rows have been returned in a select
statement, you need to set a flag and check it such as what Raj Singh
suggested in his reply. You need to be careful which method you chose
and adapt it to your needs at that situation.
