John,
I have been testing the same process as you have and found the same
result. There is a problem with Win95 and SQR3 that does not handle
images (.bmp) well. Like the print-image command. If you do it the other
way, using -printer:HP, you are very limited with fonts and can not print
the MICR line for example. I even tested Windows NT and found the same
font limitation problem.
The only way I found to handle the images is to download soft fonts to
the printer first. HP can generate soft fonts for you. I am not using
any of the -printer flags.
