Reading a fixed lenght text file in SQR

HI everybody ,

I am new to SQR . So please excuse me if is a basic question .
I am trying to read a fixed lenght text file with a READ statement and it
reads the first record okay.
I checked that with display statements. But when it reads the second record
it skips the first 10 characters
and the same thing with the all the records further .
Any help is appreciated.
