SQR loves the '~' character. I've used it several ties with no problem.
One thing about your example, "pilotwo~1" is 9 characters long, not 8.
This, however, should not cause a 3501 error.

The most common cases of 3501 errors that I've had come from forgetting to
double my exclamation marks.  for example:
   let $warn = 'Warning! An error occured.'
treats everything after the '!' as a comment.

You mean a 3501 error?  If not, what error(s) are you getting?
