Re: .lis file in SQRMATE
Randle,
I'm a private consultant working almost exclusively with Maximo these days.
I'll try to address some of your questions and list responses following each
of your bullet items.

Subject: .lis file in SQRMATE
Greetings;
We are using Win NT, SQR 3, Maximo 3.02.
We are currently testing the Maximo installation we have been working on
the last couple of months. What we have found out is that the beautiful
..spf reports we have created take forever to print over 56kb frame
relay. So, we are going to look at using .lis reports for some, if not
all of our reporting needs. I have some questions, some of which are
Maximo specific, about .lis reports.
## Have you scrutinized your code for opportunities to increase efficiency
(i.e. join methods, etc)? Anything for more speed...
1.) How would this report be registered in 'Reports and Other Apps'?
Besides replacing the .spf with .lis in the Command Line column, I would
imagine that the SQRWV would need to be replaced with something.
## You're correct - the report would need to be registered as another app.
If you register it as a Report like the others, and pass the -keep argument
when compiling the .sqt, Maximo will generate an error saying it can not
find the .spf file. You might experiment registering it as an Other app
(SQRWT?), and maybe view it with something simple like Wordpad. I've not
tried this though, and I don't know offhand how you would manage some of the
Report features such as prompts.
2.) Is it possible to create a .lis file in addition to an .spf file
when using SQRMATE? I tried the -KEEP option, but this didn't seem to
work.
## Try running the report with SQRW.EXE and pass the -keep flag. If that
works OK, compiling it with the -rs and -keep flags should take as well.
3.) Is it possible to use the .spf displayed in the SQR Viewer but have
the .lis sent to the printer when the report is printed from the SQR
Viewer?
## Sure. There are probably a number of ways to do this. I've used the
"call system using..." function in the past to send files to printers. You
could even have your report prompt the user and ask if they want to print or
not. I can share more info on this if you're interested.
4.) Is there anything else we should know about making the switch from
..spf to .lis files in Maximo?
## The loss of the Viewer app is the only thing I can think of offhand. SQR
is a very nice package with low overhead and the way Maximo utilizes the
SQRWT, SQRWV and SQRWP apps is pretty smooth. If you change, you would be
running SQRWT to generate the report and then another text viewer to look at
it and print it (unless your code sends it to a printer automatically).
