Bernie Kruger,
The proportional wrap problem can be solved using an approach
described at http://www.sqrug.com/~ftp/wrap/. Unfortunately,
I don't know who wrote the utilities or what font they support,
so you may have to fuss with it a little.
I have done some work with proportional fonts, but I haven't
needed to do the wrap piece (yet). You may be able to
use some of what I have done to make the above work, or
you may be able to adapt the above to work with what I have
done. Take a look at my HP printer support routines at
http://www.ontko.com/sqr/hp.html.
Hope this helps.
