Re: International language ???

Hi TM

Got your e-mail, and if I have interpreted correctly, you actually
wanted to read Thai characters from the database and then print it on
report using SQR?

My test actually NEVER invloved retrieving (or selecting) any
double-byte character from the database, I merely hardcoded the
double-byte characters in the SQR program. Then when I printed it,
depending on which "mode" I have set the double-byte decoder to be, the
print out will come out as either a Chinese character report or a Korean
character report. And when I used standard SQR with the Korean Win95, I
would of course get Korean character report all through.

I have zipped a SPF in this e-mail that I have generated using SQR3 (so
both versions 3 and 4 SQR viewer can view it), if Thai Win95 is a
double-byte system, my SPF should come out as some sort of Thai
character report on your screen. Just in case, if the content of this
report comes out to be something rude in Thai language, please accept my
apology, cause I did not mean it to happen.

Having said all these, from the samples reports that the Korean
customers have been faxing to me, I think they have been able to use SQR
with Korean Win95 to retrieve double-byte Korean characters from the
database.

Unfortunately, I don't know if they have actually set up anything
special to print Korean, I think the key here is the not the output
report but the input mechanism of the particular choice of character, in
your case Thai.

A few little tests that you can definitely do to find out if SQR can
work with Thai Win95 is to hardcode a few Thai characters in your SQR
source codes, generate the SPF and then view and/or print the report. If
that works the next big step would be to retrieve Thai characters from
your database and print them in a SQR report.

So, in general, I should expect SQR to work with Thai character set,
just like any other double-byte character set, unless Thai is Unicode
then I am not too certain, but the little tests I have suggested above
should have shown any problem.

Our Sydney office here actually looks after the Asia/Pacific region,
which includes Thailand, and since we have not yet established a
distributor in Thailand, so unless you are a MAXIMO or PeopleSoft user,
it is to your advantage that you consider starting a new yearly support
(or "maintenance") contract directly with us, for technical support and
upgrade in SQR.

If you (or your company) would like to discuss such contract, please
contact Mr. Kevin Jeffery, Channels Manager (Asia/Pacific) at
kevin.jeffery@sqribe.com.au or +612 9975 7600 (add 111 for extension).
