John,
I'm not sure how you value the existing license, but if
your prices have gone up substantially since the original
purchase (say 5 years ago), then the perceived cost
is very high. I know of at least one other customer
that was very frustrated on this count. They upgraded
from a Vax to an alpha, and the cost to upgrade their
SQR license would have been MORE than the cost of the
machine, operating system, and Oracle license combined.
Applying full credit for the existing license is great,
but where does that leave your existing customers
given your current pricing strategy?
