SQR Printing

I am trying to print the value of a 50 char length field using SQR.
Within this field I want to italisize any characters within #s.
This means there is a  need to use 2 different fonts just to print
the 50 char length field.   My great problem is that, using two
different fonts in the same line gives a very big space whenever
there is change in font.

Is there a way to let the print out look normal in spacing ( without
leaving a very big space).

Any comment, suggestion, help is greatly appreciated.  Please send me
