SQR - dynamic SQL

I am having looking for sugestions as to how others deal with ad-hoc 
reporting.  Basically,  we give the users many different avenues for selection 
criteria.  We store this information in a table.  This information is pulled 
from the table and is used to construct  where and order by clauses.  We begin 
to run into problems with and/or combinations.  

How do other's deal with this problem ?
