Troy Printers does this I know, they mod HP printers for signature and
MICR printing.

You can add ttf files to SQR, you need to do the set-up in the sqr.ini
file, I have added a MICR ttf file for a client in the past,
PeopleTools 8.4 which is and older version of SQR, 5 I think.
