Mail merge is probably is the easiest.
The word documents are in Proprietary format any way. It will be jibberish if
you try to open them SQR.
Remember you could add the graphics,contents in sqr and get closer to a word
document too.

Do you have a compelling reason not to use the built-in mail merge feature of
Word? It certainly strikes me as the easiest answer.
