Not enought detail to give you much of an answer. However we are in
process of going to 8.9 HR so havn't fully tested our converted print
yet on that specific version.
BUT it isn't really 8.9 you care about; it is the peopletools and SQR
version. Since it is tools 8.4x something or other... what I can with
100% assurance tell you
based our 8.43 tools 8.4 finance being in production for almost 2 years
that you should be able to get the SQR print to work. We have custom
check print process in both HR and FS. Only the foolish would use the
delivered crystal solution in finance to print checks, so our process of
customization started from pay003 (7.5).
Our check is printed double-sided as it is a form than can be
auto-sealed (heat sealer so is not unlike all those rebate / refund type
check you likely get mailed).
We use too wide a variety of point sizes for the "standard" internal
grid layout of SQR to always be able to use sqr "print" stmnts. This has
to do with our
signature and logo being embedded in printer fonts and comprise
multiple print lines. If use sqr to print it is impossible to get the
signature or logo to print
correctly. Therefore we send a concatenated printer control string with
commands to change font, point size and x and Y position on the paper
for the entire logo and then signature and send it to the printer using
a single print statement. Works great. Worked on finance version 7.0
tools and now 8.43 tools.
We use same printer to print A/P and Payroll and basically same program
(SQR) routines.
Printer is a Troy 4000 which is a modified by Troy HP4000. We used to
(version 7.x) execute check print on the client (winblows 98, etc). Our
primary
environment in the "back room" is Sun unix. Given the total "loss" of a
client in 8.4x we changed our check print process to be required to
execute on unix.
the HP 4000 is installed on a Novel network and also mounted to the
unix box. WE DO NOT use the peoplesoft distribution agents to send
output to the printer.
For several reasons - all security related. We found psft DOES NOT
DELETE the report even if you tell process scheduler to do so. The
output still "lives" in report repository on unix---you just can't see
it in proc scheduler.. YUK and DUMB!... Therefore our job restricts the
user in terms of selectiing output (NO PDF, NO HTML ect).
They can only select one of two physical printer as a destination.. So
far, normal peoplesoft. However insdie the sqr, we TRAP the actual path
of the output file
and cause it to CLOSE ***BEFORE*** the sqr terminates. We then use sqr
to shell out to unix and use UNIX print commands to sent the output to
the printer because
UNIX print commands unlike peoplesofts actually WORK when you specifiy
the output is to be deleted as soon a delivered to printer.
I am a bit limited on time, however feel free to contact me directly
(email) instead of through this list if you desire further conversation,
one-on-one by phone

We are upgrade from HRMS 7.5 TO 8.9. Our custom print check program
cannot print MICR font and signature font anymore. The signature card
uses PCL5 driver and I think Peoplesoft 8.9 uses PCL6 driver. I try all
the suggested solutions in Peoplesoft solution for solution ID 716045
but it does not help. Do you think I need to buy a new printer that uses
PCL6 driver in order to make program PAY003 work ? NO
Please advise.
