Solved: RE: [sqr-users] (SQR 5528) ORACLE OCIServerAttach error12154in cursor 0: but TNSNAMES.ORA is correct!

Thanks to all for these responses.

I added a TNS_ADMIN environmental variable - it bit dangerous since this is
an Oracle server used by many - but it worked, now my SQR runs and there
have been no fires yet!

Thanks again, Paul

I'd troubleshoot first by trying a tnsping off the box that the sqr
executable was running on. That's the first place I look when I have tns
issues. If it doesn't connect, then recreate the stanza in the
tnsnames.ora. For some bizarre reason, in very rare instances, the stanza
*looks* correct but it won't work.

In this case the client and the server are the same machine. I am running
my SQR on the Oracle db server for speed reasons. SQR executables are
located on a different machine.

BTW, the SQR runs fine on my workstation.

Thanks, and let me know if you have other ideas!

There will need to be a tnsnames file with an entry for your database on
every machine involved - servers and clients.

Hi All,

I'm trying to run an SQR off our db server for speed reasons & get the
following error;

(SQR 5528) ORACLE OCIServerAttach error 12154 in cursor 0:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
(SQR 4701) Cannot logon to the database.

There is only one TNSNAMES.ORA file on this box & it does contain the
database in question. I suppose it's concievable that SQR is somehow
finding a TNSNAMES file on the network (somewhere) that is not uptodate.

I can login the the database on the same machine with SQLPlus no
problem.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is there a setting I can make that
will
SQR look on the local drive for tnsnames.ora?

Thanks, Paul
