You may get a better response from a Peopletools forum, but here's my
answer:

You can do this with search Peoplecode, but that will only apply to one
component's search page.  You probably want the same thing to happen on
every search page in the system - and there are hundreds of them.  I
considered doing that when I first switched to Peoplesoft - then I decided
it would be much easier to train the users to do their own padding - and it
was.

I want to customize my search page in a way such that
when I enter a value (say 1) for the EmpID and tab out
of the feild it should pad to 0000001. I was wondering
if any one can gimme some suggestions/comments on how
to do this.
