Hi Paul.
Thanks for getting back to me with this solution. I have been playing
around with the Exception Builder, but am having trouble with getting the
conditional formatting expression proper. Do you have an example of a
"properly working condition" expression that I could use as a guide?
Unfortunately the Brio classroom training manual doesn't have any examples,
and neither does the on-line help. There are very good written
descriptions, but following those I just cannot seem to make the expression
builder work properly.
If you wouldn't mind, that would be a huge help.
Thanks, M

Monica:
If you are using the GUI tool, then you have the field already selected
against which you want to apply the condition. Place your mouse over the
field and right click on the field and it will display a menu. Select
object properties, then select exceptions, then click on the add button.
Select the field from the list on the left and then build the condition for
the field. Or you can use the expression builder and build the statement
right into the query (using decode for Oracle, or case for DB2 etc)

Subject: [sqr-users] Question About the Brio Report Builder
I am very new to the group and using the Brio Report Builder 6.1.3 to create
a new report. I am using the GUI version, since I am not a coding expert by
any stretch of the imagination.
I want to create a report variable to print, where the value of variable is
based on the contents of a database field. My example below shows
Parent_Part as the defined variable.
Parent_Part = EQNUM if PARENT is NULL else PARENT
I know I can do something similar in Crystal, but cannot quite figure how
where to do this with the Brio Report Builder GUI tool. Can someone in this
group possibly help me out? I sure do hope so.
Thanks in advance for your help.
M
