The list does not allow attachments. I hope I am understanding your
issue correctly.  I tried the following simple test:

begin-report
   input $Inchar 'Enter text' type=text
   show $Inchar
end-report

The show statement does indeed display all characters entered
regardless of what was typed in.  Therefore, the input statement
should not be the root of the problem.

You'll need to place show statements throughout the program to see
where the data is disappearing.
