RE: [sqr-users] DAT files

We've had three questions today that really belong on other lists. One
about a Peoplesoft Time and Labor page, one about how to identify changes in
Peopletools objects, and this one about saving files from Excel. The
readers of our list are free to ignore these questions, so we shouldn't be
upset about them. However, the people asking these questions should
consider using other discussion lists. You're more likely to get answers
and the answers will probably be better on discussion lists devoted to these
subjects. For example, in this case, Mark assumed Maria meant "how do I
produce DAT files from an SQR program?"

I recommend the Peoplesoft sponsored Time & Labor SIG. Go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PS_TimeandLabor.

I also recommend a Peopletools discussion group sponsored by IT Toolbox. Go
to http://www.openitx.com/g/peopletools-l.asp.

I don't know a good Excel discussion group, but you could save your
spreadsheet with .PRN or .TXT extension, then rename it to have a .DAT
extension. You'll have to make sure that Windows Explorer is set up to
include the extensions with the file names (in Windows 2000 Explorer: Tools,
Folder Options, View tab, "Hide file extensions for known file types"
checkbox should be unchecked). Or, if your database can read .CSV or .DBF
files, save your spreadsheet that way.

What do you mean "open a file for writing". I'm trying to save an excel
file as a .dat file. There is no choice for .dat.

open a file for writing. Then use the write command. See your sqr
user's manual.

How do you create .dat files? Like for instance I need to use a dat file
when loading External Files into our database.
