Re: [sqr-users] About Viruses
Ian,
Unfortunately there is software on the interne that will just search entire
sites, especially newsgroups for email adresses.
The standard answer most providers give you, ie not to reply to the email, is
unfortunately useless as your emailaddress will be tested by the spammer or
virus sender and as long as the mail does not bounce, it appearantly is a
correct address. You can ask you system administrator to investigate the source
server, usually an open proxy, and block all mails coming from that particular
IP address. Unforunately there are too many open proxies which means once one
server has been shut off, the spammer will just take the next one. An other
option is to register with spamcop.net and send your mails there. This free
service traces the origin of the mail and prepares a report for the
administrator of the particular server. As long as it is not illegal to spam,
the only thing one can do is complain.
