[sqr-users] Extracting data for import utility (fixed length)

Hi All,

We are upgrading (actually doing a new implementation) from HRizon 8 to HRMS
Enterprise 2. This is a similar product to Peoplesoft.

We're looking at some different options to extract the data. It would be "no
big deal" if we were just going to insert the data into the new system at
the Oracle level. However, we are going to use an import utility that will
also run any Ecode (like Peoplecode) within the application.

To do this, the import files need to be fixed length. The decimal needs to
be stripped as the import utility uses an implied decimal. Any thoughts (or
examples)?

I'm thinking of an input file that would have the name of the table, the
field names and lengths. This would allow me to run it in a batch mode for
all tables at one time, or just a specific table. It would be repeatable at
any time, with NO manual intervention or modifying of text files...take some
time to setup, but "sounds" like a good plan!

It's not too tough to write, but am hoping to take your ideas and my ideas
and make a better final result!

Thanks,
Bryan
