[sqr-users] opinions on DDL in sqr

If you create and drop tables inside sqr and the sqr dies halfway thru, you
could get errors trying to create a table that already exists. For that
reason I was counseled to set up permanent tables to use for intermediate
processing and truncate them before/after use. This approach has served me
well for years.
Now I see that the PeopleSoft/SQR manual shows how create and drop tables
inside sqr. Maybe I'm an old dog needs to learn new tricks?
Let's assume that any table like this would be truncated as the last step of
the sqr, so that it is not a needless space hog.
Are there advantages that outweigh the hassle of DDL inside sqr? Are there
database independent tricks that resolve the above problems?
I would appreciate input from my esteemed colleagues on this board as to
their preferred approach.
