Re: [sqr-users] Re: Mail Merge/Word/Form Letters

if you are using an HP LaserJet, you need to ENCODE the font(s) you want and
just assert the font change at the top of the job (or at the top of each
letter to be sure) and see what you get. You will have to tinker with the
margins and if there are Shift-to-bold or shift-to-italics within the body of
the text, you need to concatenate these font changes within the body of the
text. If you are sending the same "Thanks for your inquiry" letter day in
and day out, this is worth the trouble, IF the text of the letter varies all
over the lot, it probably is too much work. We've been sending essentially
the same letter for 18 months.

You would not use PDF but simply output the stack of letters to a .lis file
and then DOS COPY the .lis to the laser jet. this lis file will be ASCII text
with the HP commands embedded within.

If you want letterheads logo's etc. (assuming you are printing on white
paper) they are best pre loaded into the printer once, before you start the
batch job, using an HPCL "macro" These Images will stay stuck, till you turn
off the printer

If you do a "fonts printout" from your printer, you will see the strings to
get any of the font's which are resident in the printer.

remember to include a NEWPAGE after each letter, to eject it and start on a
fresh page.

Before you get too deep, try a DOS Copy of any ASCII text file to your
LaserJet, to make sure your windows, network, spooler, printer drivers
working together will let you do this.

Hope this will get you started
