I write the letter as an include file which the sqr program includes and merges
with the list of names and addresses supplied by a database query. This way,
the letter body is isolated from the program logic and can be modified by
someone who isn't a programmer using a text editor whenever necessary.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the question but we generate form letters
all the time which combine information from the database with a
pre-written letter. The letter of course has to be hard coded into the
sqr report using begin-document, end-document or using simple print
statements. I haven't done this with a pdf document which would probably
produce a better looking letter. I assume your idea is to use SQR to
merge two files, one with data and one with a pdf letter?
I'd be interested what others have done.
