RE: [sqr-users] SQR 4.1 and Windows 2000

We use Win2K against Oracle databases 7.3 or better. (I use an 8.1.7 Oracle
client with SQR 4.3.4 and SQR 5)
#1 & #2 is correct. No Oracle DLL entry is needed but a full path to the
EXEs is required in the SQR.INI file as stated by Dave. SQR 4 does not
recogize long file names but you don't have to reference a specific DLL
You shouldn't have to reference anything in Oracle at all in the SQR.INI
file. For us, the Common and Oracle Environment SQR_PATH setting should
match exactly.

Below is the first few lines of my SQR.INI file.

[Default-Settings]
Locale=SYSTEM
Default-Numeric=V30
output-file-mode=long
OutputTwoDigitYearWarningMsg=TRUE

[Environment:Common]
;SQRDIR=u:\SQR5
SQRDIR=C:\SQR434\SQRServer\ORA\BINW
SQRFLAGS=-KEEP -XCB
SQRW_SPOOL=C:\SPL

[Environment:Sybase]
SQRDIR={Location of SQR}

[Environment:Oracle]
;SQRDIR=u:\SQR5
SQRDIR=C:\SQR434\SQRServer\ORA\BINW
SQRFLAGS=-KEEP -XCB
SQRW_SPOOL=C:\SPL
SQR_DB_DATE_FORMAT='DD-MON-YYYY'

[Environment:ODBC]
SQRDIR={Location of SQR}

Hope this helps,

SRQ 4.x does work with an Oracle8 client so you can cross that one off the
list. I vote for Dave's first choice.

Keith,

Welcome to DLL hell. You may have some trouble getting SQR 4 to work with
Oracle8 on win2k.

In order of increasing annoyance, here are the things I can think of that
may be the problem.

1. I wonder why the message says "specify the filename in your SQR.INI" and

not "hey, I don't like the file you specified in your SQR.INI"... makes me
think your SQR.INI is not being found. On my Win2000 system, it's in
\WINNT.  I have SQR v6 loaded, and I don't have an ORACLE_DLL entry, just

[Environment:Common]
SQRDIR=D:\Program Files\Brio\BrioReportViewer\BINW
[Environment:Oracle]
SQRDIR=D:\Program Files\Brio\PersonalSQR\ORA\BINW

which also made me think that your odd SQRDIR entry might be to blame too.
Try making it specify the actual binw directory.

2. SQR 4 may not recognize filenames longer than the 8.3 format. You could

try changing that entry to C:\PROGRA~1\Oracle\Ora81\bin\oracli~1.dll which
should be the equivalent.

3. Even so, SQR4 may not work with an Oracle8 client. If not, you might try

copying orant71.dll from the old machine to the new bin directory and
changing the ORACLE_DLL entry to match it.

Good luck, and let us know how it comes out.
Dave
