Thanks for your postings.  The part I was missing, was saving the document as 
an "rtf" file.  I just couldn't understand the code when opening the ".doc" 
file in notepad!

It's almost identical to Excel's sylk format in that you can save formatting, 
just not margins or page orientation.  Not perfect, but better than a flat text 
file.
