Re: Text Editors Multiedit

I don't think I've ever seen UltraEdit crash and I am sometimes editing 2
million+ line data files for a data conversion project I am working on...

I am not sure about getting UltraEdit to do what you are looking for, but you
may be able to get KEDIT to perform such a feature. I know that you can set a
"zone" for editing to narrow your search to certain column(s) and then do a find
and replace or other function based on a certain value. I haven't done exactly
what you are describing however. I have not gone anywhere NEAR the amount of
features offered in either KEDIT or UltraEdit. I do like the flexibility of
having 2 good editors though because sometimes a task lends itself to one or the
other. Editing programs is preferable (for me) in UltraEdit while KEDIT is my
editor of choice for manipulation of data files...

I've been using UltraEdit for a couple of years now, and love it, however it
crashes too much (almost once a day). Does anyone else experience such
unstableness, or is it my crappy personal environment that brings me this
misery? I am using version 9.

Also ... Column/Block (mode) searching ... I think someone said MultiEdit
could search on a column or block of text (which I interperted as meaning,
for example, if you had 3 consectutive lines with 'A' in column 10, you
could search for other occurrances of 3 lines with a stack of 'A'), and
someone said UltraEdit could too ... really? Do share, for this is about
the only feature I wish were in UE, but isn't.

UltraEdit has some very powerful regular expression and macro
capabilities and will do just about everything but cook your breakfast. I
here they are working on the breakfast problem and it will come out in the
next release.

UltraEdit will do that too.
