I know we're really getting off-topic with this discussion of AE, but I couldn't
resist the comeback that popped into my mind when I read the comment about DOS.
I would have said (innocent look on face): "Why, are you saying that I would
understand AE better if I still used DOS - is THAT what AE is most like?" LOL!
I agree - the fragmentation of the code is one of the things I like least about
it. The other is how everything is driven by select sets, so if you have to do
something that is not related to a select, you still have to do a dummy select
(like "select 'X' from ps_installation") to get it to perform.
To answer another question, I have NEVER developed in AE. The only time I have
used my training was to debug a few PSoft programs. In one case, I ended up
copying and pasting all of the code fragments together and made an SQR out of
it!
And Lance's comment about the runaround on SQR with PSoft telling them to call
Brio for support - how can they tell you to do that, if PSoft now 'owns' their
version of SQR (as shown by their reassigning the version number to match
Tools)? Doesn't Brio support stop there?

Personally, I like to view a program in its' entirety. Having to scroll
through, line by line, statement by statement is not condusive to
debugging/programming. But then when I mentioned that to a PS developer they
asked if I still used DOS too. Nice.
As far as I am concerned AE is cute, but useless.
