Ben,
Do you have any example of 816 NOT handling NULL very well? I find this in
contrast ... in fact since 8x oracle has tightened the NULL checking and
definition. All this is well documented in release notes as well. The only
thing remains to confirm to ANSI standards (for Oracle) is to distinguish
between NULL and empty string at database physical storage level.
It would be interesting to find what exactly is going wrong. BTW if Oracle
crashes, there would be a trace file sitting at appropriate location, talk
to your DBA. That file will contain all the clues you or OWS need to trace
the problem.
