I think the SQR User's Guide has the best explanation I have seen.  It even
has examples!

Every time I make a new SQR, I ponder the complexities of on-break before
and after.

Has anyone come up with a simple way to remember what executes when?

For some reason, it just doesn't seem to stick in my head!
