FYI and just to avoid confusion... the translate command, which will
translate a character or a group of individual characters into other
individual characters, does so throughout a string.

Pams replace procedure (which swaps one string for another string
throughout a source string) would be replaced in version 6.0 with the
actual "replace" command.
