Thanks a lot- passing parameters- help

Hi friends,
Thanks a lot for suggesting me a good book  and also
helping me out with passing parameters using run
control record in peoplesoft.

I have successfully created a run_cntl_id for me and
passed parameters(field) and received that in sqr by
suitably modifying the given API's.
Now i am trying out passing parameters using process
scheduler(i.e. using sqr parameters).
I have filled in the field as follows

:tablename.fieldname

I am trying to pass the field value in buffer to
process scheduler.

I have included $variable in my sqr program to receive
the passed value from process scheduler.

Is there anything i need to do from peoplecode side ?
Is there any specific basis on which to decide whether
to use run control records or to use bind variables in
process scheduler(sqr parameters)?
Kindly help me out.An example would be ideal.
