Locking problem

Hi all!

I am a DBA for a PeopleSoft/Informix environment. We have been running into a
problem lately where an sqr compile/runtime statement is causing locking
problems and major delays in our database. I was hoping that someone had heard
of this and/or has a solution.

Our problem is this:

SQR performs the following SQL statement at runtime "select distinct user from
systables". Because this happens everytime an SQR runs, it is very likely that
an SQR will have to wait if another process is accessing systables. This
happens often to us, especially if we are doing any kind of system maintenance
i.e. index creation, table alters, etc...

Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks for your help.
