I believe that this has been discussed in the past. A quick scan of the 
archives of this group at www.sqrug.com turns up several hits on the keyword 
"comp-3" and "EBCDIC" that might be of help to you. One thing my quick scan did 
show that someone (Wayne Ivory) had indeed responded to your original message.
