Re: Support for Sybase IQ and Open Client 11

SQR is written in C, and in order to use the native connectivity, each
flavor is linked with the current connectivity libraries (each database has
its own set of libraries to provide connectivity). This means the program
will access the database as fast as the database vendor's software will let
you. If you want to use data from different sources, you can use ODBC
(which provides a standard connectivity to multiple data sources at the cost
of performance), or the new SQR/DDO (Direct Data Objects), which lets you
use JDBC drivers to each of the different data sources. SQR/DDO also lets
you access other non-relational sources as if they were accessible by SQL,
such as XML, SAP R/3, Essbase (or other multi-dimensional databases), etc.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but what I have gathered is our reporting
department is using Marant ODBC drivers on a Unix platform to run Actuate
reports pulling Oracle data(why ODBC, I don't know), not SQR...my bad.
However, I am miffed by the use of different executables based on DataBase
connectivity, I can understand an OS impacting a build, but DB drivers? So
this would mean an SQR could only connect to Oracle, Sybase, etc? Not
Oracle and Sybase in the same report?

SQR comes in different compiled flavors - SQR/Oracle, SQR/Sybase, SQR/ODBC,
etc. Each flavor has been compiled to talk in native connectivity mode -
SQL*Net/Net80 for Oracle, OpenClient for Sybase, ODBC (obvious). So the
drivers are used by SQR according to flavor. That's why I asked what
version of SQR/ODBC you're using... to see what version of Unix SQR
supported it (because 6.x doesn't to my knowledge).

These are ODBC drivers running on UNIX. Let me check if they are running
through SQR programs or not. Should it matter?

Andy,
I was not aware of any current versions of SQR/ODBC for Unix. What do you
have?

NT only Access??? We have A unix box running programs connecting to ODBC
data stores.

1) SQR 6.0 is certified for Open Client 11.1.1
2) You can access IQ using an ODBC driver (this means NT-only access)
3) The closest contact for you is

Hi all,
We are in the process of migrating from Sybase open client 10 to open
client 11. Do you know if SQR supports open client 11? and which version
of SQR?
We are also interested in accessing a Sybase IQ database with SQR. Do you
know if SQR supports this database? We have Sybase IQ 12.
Finally and not last, I would like to know if Brio has representation in
Spain. Do you have any contact information?
Best regards,
Jorge Canales
