resettings page numbers without changing files

Hi,

I'm batch printing medical patient profiles, and for each new patient I'd
like the page numbers to be reset.  I tried doing this with new-report,
but then it looks like the list file is  overwriting itself.  How can I
keep everything in the original .lis file?
