HP Reports and print statements in SQR V3.0.13.2

Title: HP Reports and print statements in SQR V3.0.13.2

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to using the HP printer type for reports.  Most of our reporting is done with the default line printer.  We are also in the dark ages of V3.X.

My question is, does the print statement behave differently when using the HP settings?  It seems that the following statements one after the other should print 2 lines of text.

print 'TEST' (1,{col1})
print 'TEST' (+1,{col1})

However, I am getting an extra line feed in there.  Am I missing something?
